The history of the theme park
Nestled in the heart of the Ermenonville forest, 40 minutes from your hotel near Compiègne, La Mer de Sable amusement park covers 45 hectares of land, including 20 hectares of sand.
This legendary place was created in 1963 by a French actor known for his role as Commissaire Maigret, Jean Richard. It was a time of western films and the park spontaneously found its theme.
This natural sand quarry was gradually transformed into a Wild West setting with a jungle, among other things.
The Mer de Sable was bought by the Compagnie des Alpes in 2005, before being sold again ten years later to Belgians.
The latter's objective is to welcome only children under 14 years of age and to offer them attractions and equestrian shows worthy of the biggest amusement parks in France.
Activities for young and old
Three worlds stand out at La Mer de Sable:
- the Valley of the Mississi'ptits
- the Colorado Canyon
- and the New Mexico desert
All are designed to take the family on a journey to the West through attractions and performances on the theme of cowboys.
About thirty attractions are to be discovered over one or more days in this park north of Paris. At the same time, 3 shows are given at specific times:
- Thunderbolts and gunpowder, in West City, at 1:30 pm
- The train attack, on the sand dune, at 3.30 pm
- The 3 Nations Tournament, at the Corral, at 5.30pm.
